It can simultaneously display live footage, record, playback, connect via network, and back-up without any recording loss. Connect the DVR to a VGA monitor or television and view up to 8 cameras at the same time. Up to 5 users can simultaneously monitor remotely from anywhere through LAN or Internet. You can also access the DVR remotely through cell phones with WinCE and Symbian Operating Systems on 3G Networks. Q-See`s Digital Video Recorders (DVRs) are designed to manage multiple cameras, and enable users to view, record and playback recorded video locally or over the Internet. This DVR can support up to 8 cameras, and can be integrated into your current security system. With Q-See, surveillance can be handled remotely ¿ worldwide. Q-See QSTD2408-500 8-Channel H.264 CIF Real-time Recording DVR with Mobile Phone Surveillance, Remote Internet Monitoring and Pre-Installed 500GB HDD

I’ve used the QSTD2408-500 for 3 months and have only a couple of small complaints. I’d rate this Q-See DVR a 5 except they really have no clear instructions in the manual to connect the Pelco-D protocol RS-485 PTZ communication system. On a weekend tech support is unavailable and written support is non existent. After finally talking with tech support I found it much easier to use an external joystick controller which is working well. IMO, the joystick is much more convenient than the mouse or tuner control. My other concern is that the internal “airplane’ fan is very noisy. I’d like to see a different quiet fan like in the latest computer systems. But, most DVR’s I’ve been around have noisy fans.

If you price these using the Obama method from the top down. Yes, even using the top down comparison Amazon still has the best price I’ve found on the net including the 500 GB drive and free shipping. Rating: 4 / 5

I think before you tell people they can get it cheaper at that other website you mentioned, you should tell them the DVR the other place sells does not have the hard drive installed like this one from Amazon. When you add a comparable 500gig HDD to the other places price it goes up to $823.99 ! Even using obama math that is higher than the Amazon price. (this is as 6-3-2009) Rating: 5 / 5

I read all reviews very carefully. I like this unit except just one parameter – all channels are writing in 320×240x30 fps. It looks like the camera that I just got, which is able to produce 540 TV lines, is more or less worthless since the recorded video will be seriously degraded and I’m not even sure that I’ll be able to get the details coming out from the camera. So having 8 cameras like this is good, but seriously, what DRV is able to record all these cameras in native resolution with no significant degradation? I spent weeks trying to find an acceptable device including PC based using different cards, then “standard” standalone DVRs, nothing. All I see is able to either record with the maximum resolution but incredibly slow motion, or real-time like this model, but only 320×240. Any advice? Please answer to this post if you saw some device able to work with 4-8 channels making a real time record with no video resolution degradation. Thanks! Rating: 4 / 5

I have purchased less expensive DVR’s in the past. This one is just rock solid!

Excellant interface. Love the removable drive bay and the option to add several

drives. Rating: 5 / 5
